How can we show communities the value of local solar farms?
Renewable Connections is a developer of large-scale solar PV. Solar farm development is often dependent on the involvement of those in the local area, so it is vital for developers to appropriately inform and educate their potential neighbours on the advantages of such installations.
The existing materials that were being used were due for an update, so RC turned to me for help. Drawing on my experience in the sector, we worked together to develop a clear but detailed template for community literature that could be appropriately adapted on a site-by-site basis. Since then we have been creating new bespoke maps and other materials for newly-proposed solar farms on a regular basis.

style
The map style is a hybrid between familiar OS-inspired elements and a friendlier, illustrated appearance. While the details need to remain clear, the map also has to stay in-keeping with the natural surroundings it is depicting.
layout
Community packs contain a lot of detail by their nature, so it was important to create an attractive layout that introduced visual hierarchy to the sections. It also needed to be reusable and adaptable for future projects, not just a one-shot.
